MISS UKRAINIAN CANADA HOLDS ITS SEMI-FINAL AUDITION IN TORONTO

Toronto, ON – Auditions for the next year’s Miss Ukrainian Canada Cultural Show are taking place from Sunday, December 3rd, 2017, with the organizers holding the casting in Toronto first as they look for the next winner.

Young Ukrainian Canadian women from different provinces will have several opportunities to showcase their talent and bright personality after the show’s organizers scheduled the auditions across the country, which will take place over the next few weeks. This year’s applicants are from Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. There were almost 80 submissions in total. The Grand Finale will be held on July 15th, 2018 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, the Greater Toronto Area.

Speaking at the MUC 2018 audition in Toronto, the show’s organizing chairperson Maksym Kuprieiev said the number of entries for the contest had been increasing since its debut in 2016.

“Out of almost 45 shortlisted applicants, 15 finalists will be selected during the semi-final auditions starting this month,” Kuprieiev said. “We just held our first audition in Toronto, and the next step is to hold our skype interviews and auditions for the candidates from other Provinces.”

The organizers noted that they were amazed by the entrants as both the interviews and the talent acts were impressive and many of the applicants had more than one talent presented before the judges.

Asked if the selection criteria were more stringent this time around, the organizers said they remained the same as in the previous contest: personality, artistic skills, confidence, discipline, professional, academic or sports accomplishments, and a keen interest in Ukrainian culture and volunteering. “Talent portion is optional and it does not have any bearing on the overall score,” Kuprieiev said. “It is an amazing way to have fun while it is also a great opportunity for the applicants to showcase their individual strengths and passion.”

This year’s judging panel for the semi-finals consists of only four members (left to right): arts professional and Artistic director of the Barvinok Ukrainian Dance Group Fedir Danylak, TV anchor and actress Larysa Bajus, National Coordinator of Miss Ukrainian Canada and a former Ukrainian top model Iryna Kohut, and the show’s Executive Director – Maksym Kuprieiev.

“The day was a huge success with a positive response from everyone who attended,” said Iryna Kohut, National Coordinator. “All the candidates were strong and so were their talent acts … It was stunning, it was like magic, I was actually speechless at the end. We are now looking forward to interviewing our out-of-province candidates which are also expected to be amazing.”

The organizers gratefully thank the sponsors and partners – Razom Media, the Fourth Wave organization, King’s Garden Banquet Hall, AB Flowers, E1 Production and the O.W.L. Open World Learning Educational Society for their generous support. The organizing committee also thanks the crews of Forum TV and Vyshyvanka Channel for the event coverage.
